Lunch Break

Sometimes I think that nothing I do here matters and that I'm easily replaceable.

Then I realize it is true.

But then lunch rolls around, so that's pretty good.

Office Supplies.

At the start of every fiscal year, our office manager lets us flip through a catalog to see if we want any new office supplies and/or items.  There's usually some pretty nice things in there that I could probably use.  But I always ask for the same thing - nothing.

Business Cards.

I had been told that, because of my promotion, I would finally be getting business cards of my very own.

Upon receiving them, I immediately put them in a drawer in my desk.

That was two years ago.  No one has ever stopped by my cubicle asking for one.

Busy Weekend.

This weekend was a busy one.  I had dinner with friends, drove across the state to see a baseball game, and saw a really good movie at the theater.

My co-worker asked what I did over the weekend.  "Oh, not much," I told her.

Getting Coffee.

A co-worker was in the break room when I went in to get a cup of coffee.

"You know, say what you will about all the fancy Colombian coffees out there," he said.  "But nothing beats just a regular cup of American workplace coffee."

I looked at the bag of ground coffee next to the coffee maker.  It was a brand imported from Colombia.

"Yup," I said while giving a small laugh.  "That is so true."

I made it an effort to never speak to him again for the rest of my life.

New Chairs.

Our boss called the staff into the meeting room today to discuss new chairs for the office.  He delivered a brief pep talk about the importance of chair quality, and how our current chairs are apparently terrible for us.  He then revealed to us a collection of office chairs of various sizes and styles.  Everyone got a chance to sit in each one and share their thoughts.  The winning chair was almost unanimous - the Alera Elusion Series Black Mesh Mid-Back Swivel Tilt Chair.  The cost is $350 per chair.  They will arrive next week.  I think I am going to ask if I can keep my old chair.

Fax Machine.

Sherry walked into my cubicle yesterday morning and told me that the fax machine wasn't working properly.

At home that night I thought about my life.
